Kalamata in the Classroom
Kalamata in the Classroom has been developed to engage children and educators in a journey to discover how every culture and every person has food, flavors and smells that are special to them. This is a part of a our identity that allows us to learn about each other in a very powerful way, and something that is fun for kids and grown-ups to explore when Kalamata and Al Dente lead the adventure!
This program is structured to:
- Support core SEL competencies built around the character values of curiosity, courage and compassion
- Celebrate cultures and highlight the diversity that exists in our communities
- Address issues related to food bullying and lunchbox shaming
- Reinforce a passion for reading through stories featuring food-adventuring heroes
- Speak directly to school and local demographics
